How To Set Up The Christmas Scavenger Hunt

Setting up the Christmas scavenger hunt is simple. Just follow the instructions below for a quick setup!

1 – Print out the scavenger hunt clues (get the free printable cards below), I recommend printing on white card stock to make the cards a bit more durable.

2 – Cut out the cards along the black lines. As you’re cutting, write the number of the card on the back of the card. The printouts go left right then down, so card #1 is the top left and card #2 is the top right.

3 – Using the cheat sheet and the numbers on the cards, place the Christmas scavenger hunt clues in the correct locations around the house. You can either hide the cards (for adults or teens) or make them visible if you have younger kids like I do!

How The Christmas Scavenger Hunt Works

Now that the scavenger hunt is setup, completing the scavenger hunt is even easier!

Simply give the first clue card to the hunters and let them follow the clues to the end. If you want to make it a bit more fun, you could always put the clue card inside of:

  • A large wrapped Christmas present filled with newspaper or something else to weigh it down (so they don’t know it’s just a piece of paper)
  • A piece of toilet paper roll wrapped up (like my parents used to!)
  • Their lunch box for school (if you’re doing it on a school day and not Christmas morning)

  • And if the final gift is something for the entire family, try putting this puzzle family Christmas gift at the end of the scavenger hunt instead of just a gift. Then they have to complete the puzzle to find out what the gift is!

    Tip!

If you’re doing this with teens/adults, give them the option to use their cell phone if they get stuck on a clue. The clues are all based on Christmas song lyrics (used most of these Christmas songs) so if they can’t figure it out, they can use the lyrics to get the right place!

    Free Printable Snowman Bingo:
  • This is so easy! All you’ve got to do is print it out and play. There are 8 game boards and then the little cards to cut up and use to actually play the game at the end. This is a printable PDF file, so make sure you are on a device that can accept PDFs, then open it and print!
I often get my Bingo games printed to a copy center just because I get nicer quality, but you can also print from home. It could also be nice to laminate it so that you can keep it for years to come! I hope you enjoy playing!

Guess That Smell – Christmas Game for the Whole Family

My kids have asked to play this over and over. This is a really simple game to pull together. It’s so much fun to watch everyone try and guess what the item inside the jar reminds them of.

I even threw in a bonus one that made everyone gag! Who knew Nutmeg was such a strong scent? Oopsies! Not one person guessed nutmeg. Since eggnog is A) liquid and B) not in stores – I opted for nutmeg as a substitute. If you want a good laugh, you should use nutmeg too!

we put together these Christmas trivia printable games for you to use at your next holiday get together. These trivia games have been so popular that we’ve decided to do a new version each year so that you can continue to come back and find a new game to print.

CHRISTMAS TRIVIA QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

From Christmas movie questions or Christmas history, you will find a large variety of topics covered on this quiz. All you have to do is download and print (questions and answers will be on the same PDF), and it will provide loads of fun at your next party.

We like to have couples compete against couples and always offer a prize with whoever gets the most correct. Here are some ideas of prizes we like to gift:

Again – questions and answers will be on the PDF, along with multiple version of the quiz. 😉

Basic idea: There are 3 wrapped gifts for each who is playing. These gifts are not serious gifts. They are Q-tips, and hairspray, and Justin Bieber dollar store puzzles. Mom collects them through the year. Then, at Christmas time she goes out and gets two gift cards and a $50 bill. These three things are hidden (separately) in the gifts before they are wrapped. We pass out numbers (there are currently 8 adults, 3 gifts each, so numbers 1-24) on little slips of paper. The numbers determine the order of picking and opening the gifts. So, in the appointed order (from 1 to 24), we go around the room and people start selecting (shaking) and opening (carefully!) the gifts.

Each gift can be stolen 3 times. So, if the person who draws #1 picks up a gift and opens it, and then person who draws #2 wants that gift, he or she can steal it. After the steal, the person who was stolen from goes back to the pile and picks out another gift. Then you start where you left off in the number order. But after a gift has been stolen 3 times, it’s dead. It can’t be taken again.

We also have a rule that you have to show people what you open, but you don’t have to take out and show the whole thing. You can be sneaky…. make people think you have something special so they steal it and you get to try again! (But, that can backfire if you have a masterful gift card/cash hider.)

How to get ready for the game:

1. Start collecting gifts as far in advance as possible. Anything goes. There’s the free stuff my dad gets at conferences, dollar store finds, and mostly a bunch of practical everyday-use kinds of items that are inexpensive but useful.

2. Hide the gift cards (restaurants, movie tickets, etc.) in the items. Mom is getting CRAZY good at this. Often, the person who has the gift card or the cash doesn’t even know it. One year, she made a tiny slit in the Q-tips container and slid the $50 bill in. No one could see it. No one could find it. So: make sure you write down where you’ve hid the goods. With a couple dozen wrapped gifts, it’s easy to forget.

3. Give yourself a good chunk of time to wrap the gifts. We used just over 2 rolls of wrapping paper for this year’s game (so if you want it all to match-it doesn’t have to-be sure to pick up a few rolls). Find a great audio book and enjoy wrapping!

It’s a fantastic Christmas tradition for older kids-you know, once they’re too big or too cool to sit on Santa’s lap or other younger family traditions. It’d also make an awesome Christmas party for an office or group of friends or any other group of human beings who love a good time. We hope you love it!
